Spain made many attempts to reclaim Mexico, however, every attempt would go empty. After trying in vain for a century, Spain finally succeeded in making New Mexico a part of the country. It was initially governed as New Mexico Territory till the year 1912 when it was finally admitted as a state. The initial reputation of New Mexico was that of extremism and corruption.

The state has been divided ethnically between different groups including Hispanic and Anglo immigrants, Native American and Texan immigrants. Finally after a century, Spain succeeded in reclaiming the city as part of its own country.
