The answer to the question “Who wrote the modern classic To Kill a Mockingbird?” is Harper Lee. Born Nelle Harper Lee on April 28, 1926 in Monroeville, Alabama, she was known as a Pulitzer Prize winner. To Kill a Mockingbird was her only novel, but she was still awarded with the Presidential Medal of Freedom because of her contribution to literature. The book was published on July 11, 1960 by Southern Gothic, Bildungsroman and contained 281 pages. It covers the story of Jean Louise Finch, a six-year-old girl who was living during the Great Depression.

The story also covers the story of her father, Atticus, and his own journey to defend Tom Robinson, a black man who was accused of allegedly raping a young and white woman.
