A blueprint is a drawing of the floors of a house. Another term for drafting is technical drawing. This type of drawing uses rulers and other mathematical tools to create drawings. These drawing are typically used for industrial or engineering projects. Some drafters use paper and pencil as the traditional way of drawing blueprints. Now, drafting may consist of using higher technology.

Computerized software allows the drafter to create blueprints on the computer. These systems are called computer-aided design or CAD for short. In order to make these blueprints, the architect or drafter must consider the stairs, windows and doors into their drawings. These drawings could be two-dimensional or three-dimensional representations. Drafters can also be called drafting technicians and may work for an architect.
