Just within the last 50 years, digital animation has grown leaps and bounds and hitting major milestones every few years. At the end of the 1970’s Georg Lucas funded research initiatives that would later become ILM and Pixar, some of the largest animation studios in the world. Then, in 1982, digital animation hit another milestone and used alarmingly convincing CGI in the popular movie Tron. Tron was a movie based on a computer programmer who gets sucked inside the software world of a main frame computer, which called for large amounts of CGI.
Another milestone for digital animation was the first feature length CGI film being released. That film was Toy Story.
