The Buddhist temples have such a unique artistic style because of how they developed. This history begins with the period after Buddha’s live - and therefore shortly after his death, these kinds of buildings began to appear all over India. There are three different kinds of religious buildings, but the temples are the ones we’ll focus on.

The Buddhist temples developed shortly after the Hindu temples did, and the Hindu temple plan was adopted by the Buddhists in the early days. It’s a simple square inner area, the sacrifice area, and a border of stone pillars. As the technology of the time became better and more suited to holding up larger building, the Buddhists began to decorate and elaborate on their temples.

Lay at the cross roads of the Silk routes to China, Persia, India and the Tarim basin. Through the merging and inspiration of the different art forms brought by its various neighboring nations and visitors this monastry established a unique artistic style.
