An owl is a predator that has a silent flight. Owls are primarily carnivorous animals. They hunt mostly rodents at night (they are nocturnal animals). They have silent flight so that they can sneak up on their prey.

Their large eyes allow them to see at night. Their sharp talons help them to quickly grasp their prey from the ground. They have strong jaws that allow them to crush their prey before swallowing it whole.

After swallowing their prey whole, their digestive systems are able to digest only the soft parts of the prey. The hard parts (bones, teeth, and fur) cannot be digested and form a ball in their stomach. Then when they are full of these small balls of fur/bones, the owl spits them up. They are called owl pellets.
