The Milky Eagle Owl is Africa’s largest owl. it is commonly known as the Giant Eagle Owl. Its correct name is the Verreaux's eagle-owl. It is most commonly found in sub-Saharan Africa. It measures about 26 inches in length. They are primarily grey in color and can be easily distinguished from other owls by their bright pink eyelids. They are the only owl in the world to have these pink eyelids.
The Milky Eagle Owl is nocturnal, doing all of it's hunting at night. They prefer to perch during the day in dense forested areas. However, they hunt in open areas at night. Hunting in open areas allows them to silently sneak up on their prey and not be detected. They use their large eyes to take in more light at night, allowing them to better see their prey in the dark.
