Frogs get most of their water by absorbing it through their skin. They also rely on getting oxygen (in addition to what they breathe in the air) from the water, through their skin.
A frog’s skin is its most important organ. Sometimes frogs seem to be slimy. This is a mucus that they secrete to keep their skin moist and healthy. Even with slimy skin, you’ll always find frogs living close to water. They need to make sure to stay near it in order to survive.
Frogs shed their skin on a regular basis to keep it healthy as well. A frog sheds its skin about every 7-10 days. They begin to twist and turn and look as if they have hiccups. This is to stretch the skin and prepare it for shedding. When ready to shed, frogs pull it over their head. After it’s been shed, they eat it.
