The cheetah is Africa’s fastest cat. It clocks in at a top speed of seventy-five miles an hour. The lion’s top recorded speed is fifty miles an hour. The tiger’s recorded top speed comes to forty miles an hour for an adult. The leopard is the slowest of them all at a top speed of thirty-six miles an hour. The only one that can run at their top speed for a sustained period of time is actually leopard, but that’s an issue for another day.
In other news, the cheetah itself is an animal that has powerful hind legs. This is what allows it to get up to seventy-five miles an hour for those short bursts that it runs. They rely on these powerful legs to give them the momentum needed for that kind of speed.
