The scientific name for the green iguana is Iguana iguana. It’s not very creative. However, they are native to Central America, South America, and to the Caribbean islands. In a few areas of the United States, they are considered a nuisance, and are an invasive species. Populations in the South Florida Keys, the Rio Grande Valley areas of Texas, Hawaii, and even in the U.S. Virgin Islands have begun to grow because of the climates there.
It can weigh up to twenty pounds, and some iguanas can grow up to five feet long. It really depends on where they live, what they can find to eat, and how much they can find to eat. Though it can be kept as a pet, it is a hard animal to keep as a pet due to its needs.
