In the simplest of explanations, herbivores don’t eat meat, but carnivores do. An herbivore is an animal that obtains its energy from eating only plants. Omnivores also consume the fruit and vegetables made by fruit-bearing plants.

Many herbivores have unique digestive systems which allow them to digest all kind of plants, including grass. Herbivores need a plethora of energy to stay alive. Most cows and sheep graze all day long. On the other hand, a carnivore is a mammal that mostly eats meat or the flesh of animals.

Sometimes carnivores are called predators. Organisms that carnivores chase after for food are called prey. Many carnivores chow down on herbivores.
