A region is an area of land in which the land and people have something in common with each other. It may be cultural aspects or landforms, for example. There are different types of regions. A functional region is one that is based on their commercial center or trade. The commonality in this region is due to the people’s behavior.

They interact with each other by trading and working as well as communicate with people outside of the region. Generally speaking, the people who live in this region do a function that brings them together. It also makes them similar to each other. Major cities which are known for large and strong economies may be an example of a functional region.
