The Canadian Shield is in Canada which surrounds Hudson Bay and the Great Lakes. The Canadian Shield in Canada is the physiographic region which is rocky and rich in minerals. It has an area of 8,000,000 square kilometers or roughly 50 percent of the total landmass of the country and it extends into the United States of America and the Superior Upland.

The process of forming the Canadian Shield didn’t happen overnight. It was believed that the Canadian Shield was formed over 3 billion years through the process of glaciation, erosion and plate tectonics. It is roughly five million miles and formed by the former mountain range that was eroded due to weathering. Most of the shield is primarily above sea level due to the Rocky Mountains and forests.
