The capital of Syria is Damascus. Syria or the Syrian Arab Republic has a total area of 185,180 square kilometers and it is ranked 54th most populated country in with a total population of more than 17 million people. Damascus, on the other hand, is the largest city and is also the capital of Syria. It has an area of 105 square kilometers with a total population of more than 1 million people.

It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979 with the official name of Ancient City of Damascus in the Arab States region. Although Damascus has a lot of potential in terms of tourism, the current civil war has obstructed the area to be one of the greatest tourist spots in the world.
