The correct answer to this question is weathering. It is a process that dissolves rocks and breaks them down. There are three types of weather. One is mechanical weathering. With this type, the rock is physically broken down. One example of this happens when water gets inside the racks of a rock.

When the water cools and freezes, it expands and cracks the rock, even more, causing the rock to break. The second is chemical weathering. This involves the rock decomposing, and then the rock is turned into limestone. Lastly, there is organic weathering where the plant breaks the rocks up through the roots.

Weathering causes rocks to break down into smaller particles. To explain it easier, weathering is defined as the process where rocks are dissolved and broken down into smaller pieces. There are three kinds of weathering processes and these are as follows: 1) Mechanical weathering process wherein it physically breaks the rocks into smaller particles. An example of this is when water gets inside the rock through the little cracks. When the water finally cools down and freezes, it then expands and little cracks in the rock become wider.

The rock would then eventually break up over time. 2) Chemical weathering process is wherein it decomposes the rocks or minerals and then turns the rock it into limestone and 3) Organic weathering processes is wherein a plant breaks up the rocks using its roots. Overtime, the rock would eventually break up.
