The methods of property location and description generally used in the original thirteen (13) colonies area of the US is are the metes and bounds. Metes refer to distance while bounds refer to direction and these two describe land, real estate or real property, blocks and Torrens. This system was used by the original 13 colonies which formed the United States – the New England colonies which include the Province of New Hampshire, the Province of Massachusetts Bay, the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantation and Connecticut Colony, the Middle colonies which include the Province of New York, the Province of Pennsylvania, the Province of New Jersey and Delaware Colony and the Southern colonies which include the Province of Maryland, the Province of North Carolina, the Province of South Carolina, the Province of Georgia and the Colony and Dominion of Virginia.
