A storm surge is similar to a tsunami , wherein a large wave crashes onto the shore. Sometimes, a storm surge is caused by other tropical storms such ashurricanes and strong winds. Due to the low pressure in the weather, the storm surge may occur. Storm surges have taken place in the past including one near India where half a million people died in 1970.

Five main things may take place for this type of storm to occur. This includes low pressure, high winds, waves, rain and the rotation of the Earth. When certain things happen to these elements, a storm surge could occur. These storm surges can be measured with sensors to determine the strength of the storm.
