A river is a body of moving water. Usually, the river is not as wide as it is long. The rivers are long and narrow compared to a lake. Rivers have a place where they empty the water, called a delta. The rivers will empty into a larger body of water which is usually an ocean.

Since the water in the rivers move, people have been using rivers for transportation purposes. Ever since the beginning of time, rivers have been used to move or trade crops and other products down the river. The longest river in the world is the Nile River which is located in Africa. Many people would live close to the river due to the transportation needs as well as the fertile soil located close to the rivers.
