Snakes are legless carnivorous reptiles that move by slithering. To allow the structure of the snake’s body to stay slim, their organs are placed one in front of the other instead of side by side like many other species. Snakes are found on every continent except Antarctica, and are found in almost every type of environment from the driest of deserts to the wettest jungle.

A high percentage of snakes are venomous but will primarily use their venom to kill their prey and not in a form of self-defense. Non-venomous snakes, such as the boa constrictor will swallow their prey alive or kill them with constriction.
