The correct answer to this question is A man who has received the first level of holy orders and is neither a priest nor a layman. A Deacon comes after a Bishop and a Priest. The Church also ordains them. Once they are appointed, they work to serve others.

The word deacon comes from the Greek language and means servant. Their jobs and purpose are laid out in the Bible, specifically in Acts Chapter 6, Verses 1 through 6. In this scripture, the deacons serve the needs of widows. Like priests, they can also preside over baptisms and weddings.

A man who has received the first level of holy orders and is neither a priest nor a layman.

Because a deacon, as a cleric, is no longer a layman but is not yet a priest.
