The national agency that would respond to an epidemic of H1N1 flu (a respiratory disease of pigs which can be spread through coughing or sneezing, symptoms of which include fever, lack of appetite, coughing and sore throat, to name a few) in North Carolina is the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, or most commonly referred to as AHCPR.

Although its name had been changed on December 6, 1999 to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, or most commonly referred to as AHRQ. This agency is located in Rockville, Maryland in Washington, D.C. and is one of the twelve agencies under the United States Department of Health and Human Services (USDHHS) which was established to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the health care services.
