The “Scream” movie was originally supposed to be called “Scary Movie”. The idea of the movie is that it pokes fun at the real world horrors that were going on when it was filmed. The movie was filmed and released in 1996. This made the movie incredibly different from horror movies of the time. It was a collection of horror movie cliches that were being popularized in other horror films. However, the characters freely talked about these cliches as the movie goes through its plot.

This is also what, in many critics’ minds, gave the film the financial and critical success it enjoyed upon its release. In the years prior to “Scream” being released, horror films had been directly released to video, relied upon a few cliches, and were mainly sequels of movies from the 1970s and 1980s.

I feel like this is incorrect. Is the question excluding "scary movies" as a plural? So only "Scary movie" ?
