What is the reason why Winston takes the stairs up to his flat, rather than taking the lift?

Winston feels that there is no use in trying the lift because it does not always work. In the story, the answer to this question can be B & C. Do remember that Winston loves walking and it shows through some parts of his body that he walks a lot.

For example, he has a varicose ulcer just above his right ankle. This is because of walking. He is willing to take 7 flights of stairs just to get to his apartment in Victory Mansions every time. If he does take the lift, he will see the poster of Big Brother on every floor that he chooses to visit.
