Fluid restriction can help you feel comfortable before, during, and after your dialysis sessions. Kidney dialysis gets rid of excess fluid and waste in the body. When kidneys clean waste and blood and remove extra fluid from the body, it means your kidneys are working well. Fluid restriction is also essential in the management of kidney failure.

Some people who have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease may be advised by their healthcare providers to go on a fluid restricted diet, which is because their bodies are retaining too much fluid. It is also common for COPD patients to be in a constant state of overhydration. COPD may also exhibit impaired excretion of sodium and water.

Renal Failure

In real failure, the kidney loses their ability to effectively eliminate wastes and fluids. Because of this, limiting the patients intake of oral and I.V. fluids may be necessary. Fever, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and dehydration are conditions for which fluids should be encouraged.
