Internal sharing model and external sharing model are the two types of sharing models available once you have established a community.

External sharing model gives you the ability to define different organization – wide defaults and sharing rules for internal and external users. It also helps set different level of access for external users. This means you can have one set of sharing settings for your partners and another for your employees.
