This means that the elements that are grouped together have the same chemical properties. The elements that are grouped together tend to behave in the same manner. This is the reason why the elements in the table of elements are color-coded. you will see that all of the non-metals are grouped together. All of the inert gases are placed in one group.

All of the elements are placed in ascending order depending on their atomic number. The table of elements starts with Hydrogen that has 1 atomic number and it progresses until it reaches the last noble gas in the periodic table.
