Pressure is the force per unit area applied in a direction perpendicular to the surface. It is a scalar quantity that has no direction. Pressure is often confused with stress but they are not the same.

When you apply a force to an object, the pressure is defined as the force applied divided by the area of application. The equation for pressure is: P = F/A.
