B and c-complications and nursing implications of hemodialysis include: (1) clotting/infection of access site (use surgical aseptic technique during cannulation; avoid compression of access site/extremity) (2) disequilibrium syndrome - too rapid a decrease of bun (early recognition) (3) hypotension (discontinue dialysis, place in trendelenburg position) (4) anemia (administer prescribed medication therapy (erythropoietin) to stimulate the production of rbc) (5) infectious disease (hd posses a risk for transmission of bloodborne disease such as hiv and hep b and c. maintain sterility of equipment. use standard precautions).
