3 na+ ions located in cytosol bind to carrier proteins on cytosol side of membrane and carrier protein remove phosphate group from atp2. phosphate group removed from atp binds to carrier protein3. (gives energy) binding of the phosphate group changes shape of carrier protein allowing three na+ ions to be released into cells environment (outside cell)4. 2 ka+ ions on outside cell bind to carrier protein5. phosphate group released . returns to original shape6. 2 ka+ ions released into cytosol
