Pathos is the most strongly used rhetoric in this picture. The frame in red set around the soldier's head looks like a noose; the soldier is hanging his head down so low that it is almost hanging off; between his boots is a single trainer and a document that may have belonged to a deceased comrade. Who knows what trauma this soldier has suffered - yes, we need to "know why"

Pathos because it makes you feel a certain way about the soldier.

Pathos

The soldiers posture is suggestive of emotional distress. We cant help, as viewers, to empathize with him. We want to understand his pain, so this is largely an emotional or pathetic appeal.
