They are very similar, but its not quite true. A bibliography is a list of everything that youve read while youve researched something, but references are just the items that youve referred to in the text of your report, essay or dissertation. You can have both, with references listing things you quote from or use in your work, and a bibliography listing other things youve read, but youve not used them in the main text of your document.
