The human metabolism is a complex process whereby many enzymes interact with one another and contribute their share of the function to enable the desired result. The release of ATO from glucose is a complex process and requires many steps and enzymes.

Part of it is because nature keeps a balance and not everything can go in and out of the cells of our body without the proper permission. Phosphofructokinase is an enzyme that converts fructose-6-phosphate in to fructose-1, 6-bisphate during glycolysis. This causes the release of ATP that is used by the cell for energy. The step is an important energy-releasing step in the cycle.
