The month of February is observed as the Black History Month or the African American History month in the US, Canada and the UK. Initially the the second week of February was observed as the Negro history week.

Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, celebrated leaders of the African Americans were born that week. Later the concept extended to the entire month and the whole month was dedicated to African American history.
