The potential therapeutic efficacy is the effectiveness of a standard amount of drug. Normally, it is used as a comparative value that allows medical practitioners to evaluate different drugs. In this case, the potential therapeutic efficacy is greater in trial X than in trial y. The greater the effectiveness per unit time of the drug action, the higher the potential therapeutic efficacy.

These values are easily displayed as graphs and allow immediate evaluation of different drugs. Researchers often evaluate different drugs in this manner to determine which drug is better for patients. However, at the same time, the potency of the drug matters as well.
