Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH is written by Robert O’Brien and is often read in schools throughout America. This book is a science fiction story about highly trained rats and the animals they meet. Mrs. Frisby is a widowed mouse who is trying to protect her children and find a new home out of harm’s way.

Her son, Timothy, is sickly and they require a special location to keep him healthy. Mrs. Frisby is referred to the rats as a possible source of help. The rats devise a plan to move the mice’s cinderblock home to a new location which will protect the family.
