The type of network that can connect multiple Local area networks is called MAN (Metropolitan Area Network). MAN or Metropolitan Area Network is a network that connects several Local Area Networks that are close in proximity. These networks usually interconnect users in an area that is larger than what a LAN can accommodate but smaller than what a WAN (Wide Area Network) can cover.

A Metropolitan Area Network connects several LAN’s by bridging these smaller networks using backbone lines. These networks use high-performance connections (fiber-based) and high-end routers to accommodate higher data traffic and provide faster data transfer speed between nodes.
