Myelomeningocele is a defect of the spine and spinal cord in children, specifically babies whose spine, spinal cord, and spinal canal do not form normally. This is the most serious form of spina bifida. Part of caring for a child suffering from myelomeningocele is going to be getting the proper surgeries to repair the disorder.

Before surgeries and during the process of getting corrective surgeries the child can be made as comfortable as possible and they can learn how to use gross grasp and lateral pinch for functional activities. It should be noted that a child suffering from this condition is susceptible to latex allergies and should be monitored as such.
