Outlook Express is a discontinued e-mail, and news client included with internet explorer versions 3.0 through 6.0. It was grouped with several versions of Microsoft Windows, from windows 98 to windows server 2003. It was replaced by apple mail. It uses the window address book to store contact information and integrates with it. On Windows XP, it integrates windows with messenger.

It was discontinued because it was prone to many problems that corrupted it’s file database, primarily when the database was increased in size. It was one of the earlier email clients to support HTML email and scripts. As a result, emails would continuously be infected with viruses. The script could also be automatically opened as an attachment, and opening the email could cause code to run without the user's knowledge or consent.
