A patient experiencing fluid shift to third is most likely going to demonstrate signs of hypovolemia.

Third spacing commonly occurs when fluid leaves the intravascular compartment and stays in the interstitial space (third space) instead of moving into the extravascular compartment.

Accumulation of fluid in the third space render the fluid “useless” to the body and decrease the total amount of fluid available for circulation.

This causes conditions such as edema, hypotention and low cardiac output to occur.
Hypertension, bradycardia and hypervolemia are not features demonstrated in patients experiencing fluid shift to the third space.
