Which principle best explains why some flies survived?
Five hundred flies of one species were sprayed with a new insecticide. Twenty-four hours later, nearly all the flies were dead. However, a few survived.
I don't think that animals them self adapt, it is the environment that selects the animals who have certain mutations or characteristics that are adventageous, here being their immunity to the insecticide. the proportion of flys with the immune characteristic will indeed increase within the population, however, the fly itself did not change to 'adapt' to the environment. The answer of being lucky is in fact more viable.
