The Great Gatsby is a novel written in 1925 by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It is set in West Egg, Long Island in 1922. It takes place during the Jazz Age and the Roaring Twenties. The author Fitzgerald was inspired by parties he actually attended himself on Long Island. He led a similar life to Nick and possibly fashioned that character to be him.

Jay Gatsby is a millionaire who is in love with a beautiful young lady, Daisy Buchanan. The story has many twists and turns between the characters Nick, Tom, and Daisy. At one point Nick becomes annoyed by Tom’s response to Nick’s unemployment. He felt Tom’s response was meant to degrade him. At the end of the story, Nick moves back to the Midwest.
