The American aces were low because they got to go home after a certain amount of missions.. meaning they can help train green airmen

Erich Hartmann

Erich Hartmann of the Luftwaffes JG52 was the highest scoring ace of any war. He claimed 352 enemy planes shot down and survived to a ripe old age of 80. By comparison the highest scoring U.S. ace had about 40 planes shot down.
