Figurative language is used frequently in both short stories and poems. The use of this allows the reader to get a better image of what is happening. A simile is defined as a phrase or sentence where two uncommon objects are compared to each other with one thing that they have in common using either the words “like” or “as.”

A metaphor is very similar to a simile, but it does have one main difference. A metaphor is a comparison of two unlike things but it does not have the words “like” or “as” in it. Personification is when nonhuman objects are given human qualities. In the sentence, it is a similar because it is comparing students with ants because they are both crowded and it uses the word “like.”
