Thresholds are basically certain limits. Thy are indicators which indicate that after a set point a certain condition might change, improve or deteriorate. They are basically the turning points after which a change is bound to happen. A number of processes have thresholds ha help us identify certain limits and certain points of changeover.

So, essentially, thresholds are visual indicators that indicate that certain conditions exist in data. After this set limit you will enter a new condition, which might be good, bad or simply an alternative to the present with different values. We take advantage of thresholds in different conditions and different fields to improve our knowledge and our ability to work.
