Both are law degrees, and the LLB is the first law degree that someone can obtain. It is the same as a Bachelor of Laws. This degree has been the common term given to somebody who has graduated or completed the law course or standard law program.

The LLB originated from England, and LLM is known as the Master of Laws. In most countries, having an LLB degree is looked at like a scholarly program in which additional training or education units are first required for the person to practice law. JD, on the other hand, is called Juris Doctor. One must have the JD to be admitted an LLM if they do not have any LLB received outside of the United States.

JD is the first law degree that acts as the primary training for lawyers in America. A thesis is not necessary to procure a JD. It was only until 1997 when this degree was made available in other countries, but there are some discrepancies with their versions instead of the original JD offered in America.

L.L.B or Bachelor of Laws and JD or Doctor of Jurisprudence are both undergraduate degree courses in law. The two courses are considered, in most countries of the world, as prerequisites for anyone who wants to become a lawyer. In the United States, the LLB degree used to be the standard prerequisite program for law education; however, JD has now become the standard prerequisite course for law education after it was first awarded in 1903 by the University of Chicago law school. LLB differs from JD because the former is still the standard prerequisite course for law education in some countries. In the United States, if anyone wants to seek admission to the LLM program, such an individual must first have a JD degree. The same is applicable in countries where the LLB degree is considered as the standard prerequisite course for law education. Out of the two, JD is a more recent undergraduate degree course.

L.L.B and JD are pre-requisites for higher law degrees. Although both might have some similarities, there are still a lot of differences between the two. JD was first awarded in the 1960s at Harvard to serve as an alternative to L.L.B. In most countries, JD is a 3-year program meant to serve as the foundation for other advanced law degrees. The curriculum of JD is not the same for all universities; it is different from one country to another. The curriculum of JD encourages a practical teaching method since it makes use of scientific approaches to help practitioners study substantive law. On the other hand, LLB is a bachelor's degree in law that started in England. Although it started in England, it is now being awarded in different countries of the world. Unlike JD that uses a practical teaching method, LLB uses more academic and traditional methods. Unlike JD, LLB is a program that can take 5 to 7 years to complete.

LLB and JD are known to be courses that people may take when they reach certain requirements. LLB is more dominant as this is chosen more by people when they would like to take law. Take note that this is also being done in different parts of the world. JD stands for Juris Doctor. This is a modern program that is considered to be the equivalent of LLB in the United States. The course content that is available in JD is considered to be more vocational as compared to LLB. To become a lawyer, getting any of the two is required so that a person can be qualified.

One of the things that you should realize is that JD and LLB are known to be very similar to each other. They would both require that the applicants have received a certain level of education otherwise people will not be able to apply for these courses. If you would like to try something that is considered to be more dominant, the LLB should be your choice.

This is known to be the choice of those who would like to take undergraduate law. JD, on the other hand, will stand for Juris Doctor. Some would also refer to this as Doctor of Jurisprudence. This is the undergraduate law degree that is now being used in the United States of America.
