What is the difference between Memoir and Biography?

Some people can become confused between a memoir and a biography because they seem to be the same. When you say biography, this is known to be a book about a certain individual. Yet, the book is written by someone else.

It can be someone who has always been interested in the person or it can be a close friend or a family member. When you say memoir, this is usually a collection of the things that the person has written about his/her life.

For example, there are some people who would create a memoir from the different pages of his/her diary. This means that a memoir is still written by the person who the book is about.
