For those who take dark and milk chocolate on daily basis, stating some of their differences won't be a problem. However, if you are reading about their differences for the first time, then the first difference you should know is that both differ when it comes to the quantity of cocoa used in making the two types of chocolate. The percentage of cocoa in milk chocolate cannot be compared with that of dark chocolate because the quantity of cocoa used in making dark chocolate is higher than that of milk chocolate.

This makes dark chocolate to be more pure, darker and low in fat content compared to milk chocolate. In contrast, milk chocolate is produced by adding condense milk or milk powder to cocoa solids. The addition of milk powder or condense milk makes milk chocolate to be sweeter and creamier compared to dark chocolate. Although, both have certain health benefits, dark chocolate offers more benefits than milk chocolate.

For chocolate lovers, the debate is always which chocolate do you prefer, milk or dark? Some say that dark chocolate has a bitter taste to it, which offends the taste buds of those expecting the sweetness and smoothness of milk chocolate. Dark chocolate is packed with age protective antioxidants. Milk chocolate only has a fraction of what's in dark chocolate; therefore, it is considered healthier.

Dark chocolate also doesn't have as much sugar as milk chocolate. Dark chocolate contains cocoa solids of around sixty-five percent. Another health benefit to dark chocolate is that it can help lower blood pressure, and it can even help to regulate glucose metabolism. Milk chocolate is generally more popular with children, as they cannot tolerate the bitterness of the dark chocolate. Most children, when trick or treating, for example, come home and get excited to see milk chocolate Hershey bars and milk chocolate Reece's peanut butter cups. Dark chocolate typically requires a more mature pallet, as many older people have dark chocolate with their wine.
