Major League Baseball consists of two professional leagues. These would be the American League and the National League. The difference between the AL and NL is that AL allows a designated hitter, who is any player that bats in the place of a pitcher. As a general rule, the NL does not permit this.

The outcome is a higher number of runs averaged by AL teams compared to NL teams because of the extra solid batter in the AL team bat. AL is a more power-based game, with the home run being the end goal, while the NL is more oriented towards pitching. This situation places the importance of offensive runs.

NL and AL are two leagues of baseball in the United States. NL stands for the national league. AL stands for American League. Between the two, NL is older. It has been around since 1876. The creation of NL made it the first United States baseball professional league.

A couple of years after that, the AL was created. It was founded in 1901. This league was created to compete with the National League. Another difference between them is the number of teams that each has. The National League has more teams with 16, while the American League has only 14 teams.

NL or American League is one of the professional baseball leagues in the United States. It was created in 1876, and that makes it to be the first professional league for baseball in the United States. AL or American League, on the other hand, was created in 1901, and that makes it to be the newer league of the two. One of the reasons behind the creation of AL is for both to be competing with each other.

For AL, the total number of teams that participate in the American league is 14, whereas it is 16 for the National League. Another major difference is that there is provision for a single hitter in the American league, whereas anybody can bat in the National League. This is known as a Designated hitter in the American League. Another difference is that NL focuses mostly on offensive runs, placing, and pitching, whereas AL focuses more on power and home runs.
