What is the difference between Cajun and Creole?

Cajun and Creole are words used to refer to any member of the two ethnic groups in Southern Louisiana. Although there are certain similarities between Cajuns and Creoles, there are also some differences between the two. First, Cajuns are usually referred to as poor and uneducated francophone that live in Southern Louisiana, simply because their origins can be traced to be from the rural parts of the region.

They were first Acadians when they got thrown out of Canada before they moved to Louisiana. The descendants of these people are known as Cajuns. In contrast, the origin of Creoles can be traced to be from the urban parts of the region. The parts of Southern Louisiana occupied by Creoles were colonized by white Europeans. The term Creole is now used to describe any member of the ethnic group. Another difference is that Creoles are not religious people compared to Cajuns. Another difference can also be noticed when you consider their foods. Creole foods have a mixture of French and Afro-European influence, while Cajun foods are greatly influenced by the French.
