TQM is the short form for Total Quality Management. TQM and six-sigma are time tested tools to give value to products and services. TQM is a philosophy, while Six-Sigma is a focused methodology. The basic difference between total quality management and six sigma is that the TQM delivers superior quality manufactured goods while Six sigma gives a better result.

TQM is a less complicated process than six sigma. Six-Sigma is focused on improving quality by minimizing and eventually eliminating defects from the system. TQM's main concerns are on individual departments and more on the quantitative goals.

Its main goal is customer satisfaction, while six sigma gives continuous improvement and is self-propelled. TQM is run by the quality control department, while the six sigma individuals work full time for a while before they return to their department.

You should first know that TQM stands for Total Quality Management. This usually focuses on making sure that the quality of items is always the best in order to fit the standards that have been set by the company to fit the internal requirements that are needed.

For Six Sigma, the main goal is to improve the quality of the projects by looking at the things that are causing the defect.

For example, there are some processes that will not be done anymore because the value and the quality may be completely reduced. Take note that Six Sigma is usually considered to be a part of TQM. It is just more specific.
